European Union

There is no official quarantine for cats and dogs entering any EU Country from the United Kingdom except Malta.

Summary information and requirements for the exportation of cats and dogs to countries in the European Union from England, Wales and Scotland only.

Veterinary Requirements

An EU Pet Passport issued by your vet.

To obtain this, you must first have your pet microchipped by your vet. The vet must then vaccinate your pet against rabies. This must be done at least 21 days prior to the flight. If your pet is not going to be brought back to the UK your pet is now ready to go.

If you do intend to return to the UK then the vet must obtain a blood sample at least 21 days after the rabies vaccination and submit it for testing. Assuming that this result is positive, the details of the blood test will be entered into the Pet Passport. Your pet will not be entitled to return to the UK without being subject to quarantine until 6 months has elapsed from the date of the blood test. For cats and dogs which will eventually be returning to the UK please refer to the DEFRA website for conditions, airlines and routes

http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/pets/travel/index.htm

Airlines require assurance that your pet is healthy enough to fly. Therefore your pet must be inspected by a vet shortly (usually within a few days) prior to the flight. The vet must then issue a fitness to fly (or private health) certificate or sign, date and stamp the relevant clinical examination section of the passport.
